When we are put into boxes

I was reading this book called The Offer, by Karina Halle (great one, by the way), and the main character said something that is stucked in my head:
"(...) people like to hold onto their ideas of what you are and who you are. They put you in a box and no matter how hard you try to show them what you're really like, they can't wrap their heads around it. They won't. They only want you to be a certain way, the way they see you."
I started to think about it, and it's so true. Everybody has this thing, where they judge you for somenthing, and even if it was a moment of your life that you were acting in a certain way, they tell that you will always be like that. Even if you changed a long time ago, even if you're no longer that person that you used to be... they'll still see you as that person you once was.

People change. The world change. So why do we keep putting everyone into boxes? I'm not saying that I never did this, of course I did, everyone does that sometime in their life. But why do we do that? Why don't we give the other a chance to prove they changed? Or why do we keep searching for mistakes that other person made years ago?

I'm starting to think that a lot of people are too intolerant. They judge, and point their fingers, but when it's the other way around, they think their being wronged. What happened to us? Where all of this will lead us to? Why can't we respect and support the other?

I wish everyone could take a break and realize that this is not healthy. We're not helping anyone when we do this. So please, let's be more patient, loving, caring, and less judgmental. The world needs this change. We can't want the world to change, if we don't change.
